Edible pancake painting with fruit purées

Edible Pancake Painting

Half snack, half art class! Let your little one explore colours and textures by ‘painting' pancakes with fruit purées — a brilliant, fully edible sensory activity.

What you need

  • Pancake mixture (your usual)
  • Milk
  • Blended pomegranate
  • Blended kiwifruit
  • Unsalted butter
  • A pan, spatula and a clean paintbrush

Make the pancakes

  1. Mix your pancake mixture with milk.
  2. Heat the pan on low and melt a little unsalted butter.
  3. Add the batter and cook until golden. Cool before serving.

Make the edible paint

  1. Blend the pomegranate until smooth.
  2. Blend the kiwifruit until smooth.

Then let them loose with the paintbrush and the cooled pancakes. Tip: the removable pots from a silicone plate make perfect paint pots.

A sensory activity like this is gloriously messy — pop on a coverall bib and let them explore.
